Birmingham Whisky Club 1st Birthday

Our good friends from The Birmingham Whisky Club celebrate their 1st Birthday on December 1st….What better way to celebrate this occasion than tasting a shed load of amazing whisky! We’ll be there and we hope to see some of you guys also……..In their own words….

The Birmingham Whisky Club is about to celebrate it’s first Birthday with a festival and tasting event. The event will take place in the private rooms of the Old Joint Stock on Saturday 1st December between 12:00 – 17:00. Upstairs will be a room for distillers/brands to showcase their stock – visitors will be able to taste around 50 whiskies and chat to people behind the stands to understand how to taste and what to look out for. Downstairs there will be two tasting sessions: cheese and whisky matching and whisky for the festive season - both a great way of exploring the drink in a bit more detail. This would be an ideal afternoon for the whisky expert, or a novice trying to gain knowledge about the world of whisky. The Whisky Shop will have a stand showcasing their Christmas stock and will be giving people a 10% discount for any whisky bought on the day. We will also be running a competition to win tasting tickets, bottles of whisky and tickets to a distillery tour.
You can buy a ticket for just the main festival room at £25, go to one of the tasting sessions from £20, or combine them to get a bit of money off.

Soul Food Burns Dinner – Weds Jan 25th

This may seem a way off, but we’re looking ahead here folks, as December always fly’s by…..

In January, Soul Food launches into 2012 with our first traveling kitchen evening celebrating Burns Night (Wednesday January 25th) with a huge feast of authentic Scottish food and Whisky!

We searched long and hard for the right venue to host this and then re discovered one of the most beautiful buildings in Birmingham (and beyond), as well as the oldest pub in the city…..The Old Crown, Digbeth.

Still independently run, The Old Crown oozes old world charm, character and ‘excuse the pun’ soul. It’s reportedly haunted, has apparently been frequented by Dick Turpin and was one of the last Republican buildings to hold out during the English Civil War…..

This beautiful space will for one evening only, house 50 Soul Food guests for a 3 course burns night supper.

The bar will be getting in some extra special Whiskies for this evening which we’ll be encouraging you to match to some of our dishes (in moderation of course!)…

Tickets are £15 per head (Drinks not included) and as stated above, we’re strictly limited to 50 spaces. This is a bookings only event so please pick up a ticket here and then you’re dinners sorted!
