The Church opened its doors to Soul Food in May 2013, situated in the historical Jewellery Quarter of Birmingham. The pub itself was built around the 1830’s by the Ansell’s brewery, having seen a succession of landlords take to the pumps therafter. Whilst remaining a traditional pub, the front bar drenched in French Quarter art and character, the back of the venue has been transformed to a multi-functional space hosting a wealth of live music, DJs, comedy nights, tasting events, the list is endless…. Then to top all this of when its hot outside, we put a sun drenched roof terrace that stands tall in its industrial chic surroundings.
The Church is also Soul Food Project’s HQ, so we decided to explore the elegance of New Orleans’ French Quarter bistros and their unique take on Cajun classics. Expect our famous jambalayas, gumbos and blackened fish in addition to curveball concoctions from SFP’s team of chefs. The bar hosts a fine selection of real ales, handpicked wines and of course a wide selection of cocktails from sazeracs to gin fizzes (not forgetting Louisiana’s favourite “The Hurricane”).
